Alekseev, Boris Alekseevich 

Born Apr. 14 (27), 1911, in the village of Baisubakovo, now Cheboksary Raion. Soviet Chuvash actor; People’s Artist of the USSR (1969). Member of the CPSU since 1944. Graduated from drama school in Cheboksary in 1932. Member of the Chuvash Theater (now the K. V. Ivanov Chuvash Musical-Dramatic Theater) since 1929.

Alekseev’s roles in the works of national Chuvash dramaturgy have included Asmat (Sadur and Hem by Maksimov-Koshkinskii), Entip (in the play of the same name by Rzhanov), and Merkur’ev (Wave of October by Kalgan). His best roles also include Pavel Korchagin (How Steel Was Tempered after N. A. Ostrovskii); Sergei Tiule-nin (Young Guard after the novel by A. A. Fadeev); Avdei Spiridonovich (Marriage With a Dowry by D’iakonov); Luka, Perchikhin, and the old man (Gorky’s The Lower Depths, Petite Bourgeoisie, and Old Man); Khlestakov (The Inspector General by Gogol); Bal’zaminov and Ar-kashka Schastlivtsev (A. N. Ostrovskii’s Marriage of Bal’zaminov and Forest); and lago (Shakespeare’s Othello). On the Chuvash stage he portrayed V. I. Lenin in the plays Man With a Gun by Pogodin and In the Name of the Revolution by Shatrov. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
