    0.01 sec.
Alekseev, Georgii Dmitrievich

Born Apr. 20 (May 2), 1881, in the village of Veniukovo, Moscow Province; died July 21, 1951, in Moscow. Soviet sculptor and graphic artist.

Alekseev graduated from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in 1914. In 1907 he did a portrait of K. Marx in plaster (in D. G. Alekseev’s collection, Moscow). In 1918 he did several life-size sketches of V. I. Lenin in his office. He participated in the implementation of Lenin’s plan of monumental propaganda (the reliefs entitled Workers’ and Peasants’ Alliance on the facade of the Lenin Central Museum in Moscow, 1918, and at the Marx Monument in Balashikha, Moscow Oblast, 1919, both in concrete). He made one of the first busts of Lenin (1919), which has been installed in several Soviet cities, the first statue of Lenin (The Leader’s Call, plaster, 1924, Lenin Central Museum), emblems of the Osoaviakhim (Society for Promoting Self-defense and the Aerochemical Industry, 1926–27), and the poster Ultimatum (1923).
