Alekseevka Settlement

 

a settlement of the An-dronovo culture, located at the village of Alekseevka, 50 km southeast of Kustanai, Kazakh SSR. The site dates from the 11th to eighth centuries B.C. Several semidugouts have been discovered, each of them 250 sq m in area with clay and stone hearths. There are ashpits near the hearths. Bronze, bone, and stone tools and other objects have been found, as well as ceramics and bones of domestic animals. Nearby is a burial place and sacrificial mound with many vessels and pits with scorched wheat; vessels and bronze ornaments have been found in the graves. The population lived in patriarchal communes and engaged in livestock raising and agriculture.
