Alena 

Dates of birth and death unknown. Leader (ataman) of a peasant division during the Peasant War led by Stepan Razin; previously she had been a nun (staritsa) and was by origin a peasant of the Vyezdnaia Sloboda in Arzamas.

Alena’s detachment, numbering about 600, took part in the capture of the city of Temnikov in 1670. She was caught by government troops and burned alive. She attained wide popular fame owing to her bravery, as well as her heroic conduct during interrogation and execution.
