In southwestern AK, extending south and west from the Alaska Peninsula as far west as Akutan Island; bounded on south and east by Pacific Ocean, on north by Bering Sea. Established Oct 23, 1987 from the eastern portion of the former Aleutian Islands Census Area and the southwestern portion of the Dillingham Census Area Name Origin: Adjective form of Aleut, the natives of the Aleutian Islands.
