Belov, Aleksandr Fedorovich
Born Mar. 15 (28), 1906, in the village of Popovka, in what is now Smolensk Oblast. Soviet metallurgist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972). Hero of Socialist Labor (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1932. After graduating from the Moscow Academy of Mines in 1929, Belov held a series of positions at metallurgical enterprises; he was named head of the All-Union Institute of Light Alloys in 1961. His principal works deal with the development and improvement of processes used in melting, casting, and working light alloys, high-temperature alloys, and refractory alloys. Belov has received the Lenin Prize and three State Prizes of the USSR and has been awarded four Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, five other orders, and various medals.
