Alexander Severus, Marcus Aurelius
Born 208: died 235. Roman emperor from 222, the last of the Severus dynasty. Prominent jurists, such as Ulpian, played a great role in the administration of Alexander Severus. He ruled in consultation with the Senate. In 231–32 he led a successful war against Persia. In 234 he moved his troops from the east to the Rhine to fight against the Germanic tribes who were attacking the frontiers. However, he was killed near Mainz by his soldiers, who were dissatisfied with the strict military discipline he introduced. REFERENCEShtaerman, E. M.
