the southwest part of the Palmer Peninsula, joined to the continent’s landmass by the shelf of the George VI Glacier. It extends some 400 km from north to south and approximately 200 km east to west. Its glacier cover is broken in places by mountain ranges and nunataks. The highest peak is Mount Stevenson, 2,987 m. Alexander I Land was discovered by a Russian Antarctic expedition led by F. G.
