Algeciras

Algeciras (älhāthē`räs), city (1990 pop. 102,079), Cádiz prov., S Spain, in Andalusia, on the Bay of Algeciras opposite Gibraltar. A Mediterranean seaport, it is the main Spanish ferry terminal to North Africa. Fishing and tourism are also important. It was the first Spanish town taken (711) by the Moors. In the naval engagements of July, 1801, near Algeciras, the British defeated the French and Spanish fleets.

The game in question involved Recreativo Linense and Saladillo Algesiras in the regional first division of the southern province of Cadiz, Marca said on its website.
The representative of the central government in Cadiz however on Saturday said that the leak from the Tawe had soiled between 300 and 400 metres (990 and 1,320 feet) of beach in the Bay of Algesiras.
The Latin Grammy Award-nominated singer, who has had successful solo career since the band broke up in 1998, was in serious condition at a hospital in Algesiras but her life is not in danger, a spokesman for the government in the nearby city of Cadiz said.
