Dashti, ’Ali 

Born 1895. Iranian writer and political figure.

Dashti studied in Iraq. In 1921 he began to publish the newspaper Shafaq-i surkh (Red Dawn) and became a majlis deputy. In the 1920’s he was arrested more than once, and he returned to political activity in 1941. He wrote collections of stories mainly about the lives of the highest strata of Iranian society, in which elements of psychoanalysis are apparent (the collections Prison Days, Jadu, Hindu, and Fitnah. He also wrote the collection of articles Shadow.
