Ali Soibat Sumbatovich Sumbatzade

Sumbatzade, Ali Soibat Sumbatovich 

Born Jan. 8 (21), 1907, in Amiradzhan, in Surakhan (now Ordzhonikidze) Raion of the city of Baku. Soviet historian and Orientalist. Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (1958). Member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1956.

Sumbatzade graduated from the department of Oriental studies of Azerbaijan State University in 1929. In 1963 he became director of the Institute of the Peoples of the Near and Middle East of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR. His main works are on the socioeconomic history of Azerbaijan in the 19th and 20th centuries.
