Alianzas Obreras
workers’ alliances. One of the forms of uniting workers of different political tendencies during the process of creating a single workers’ front in Spain in the 1930’s. They first appeared in Catalonia in 1933. Initially the Alianzas Obreras united the local organizations of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party, the Workmen’s General Union, the Unified Socialists’ Youth Organization, and also the Syndicates of Opposition which had split off from the National Confederation of Workmen, and the Trotskyist Bloc of Workers and Peasants. In September 1924 the Communist Party joined the Alianzas Obreras. They played an important role in the antifascist October actions of 1934. Later they gave way to other organizational forms of proletarian unity. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
