an urban-type settlement in the Azerbaijan SSR, located on the shore of the Caspian Sea, 75 km south of Baku. Aliat has a railroad junction on the Baku-Tbilisi line, with a connection to the Dzhul’fa-Yerevan railroad line. The population in 1968 was 6,600. Enterprises center around rail transport. A plant for repairing automobiles is under construction (1969).
