Aliev, Geidar Ali Rza Ogly 

Born May 10, 1923, in Nakhichevan’. Soviet Party and state figure. Member of the CPSU since 1945.

Born to a worker’s family, Aliev graduated from the history department of Azerbaijan State University. From 1941 to 1949 he held responsible positions in security services and in the Council of Ministers of the Nakhichevan ASSR. He spent 1949–50 in training. Between 1950 and 1964, Aliev held positions of authority in the Ministry of State Security, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Committee of State Security (KGB) of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR. From 1964 to 1967 he served as deputy chairman and from 1967 as chairman of the KGB under the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR. His military rank is major-general. In 1966 he became a candidate member of the Azerbaijan Communist Party’s Central Committee. In July 1969, Aliev became member and first secretary as well as member of the bureau of the Azerbaijan Communist Party’s Central Committee. A deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR, he has been awarded the Order of the Red Star and various medals.
