Aliev, Mirza Aga Ali Ogly 

Born 1883, in the village of Govsan; died Oct. 25, 1954, in Baku. Azerbaijani actor; People’s Artist of the USSR (1949). Member of the CPSU from 1943.

Aliev began his professional theatrical activity in 1906. He studied under Dzh. Zeinalov and worked in the Nidzhat troupe and was one of the organizers and actors of the Gamiiet troupe (in 1906) and the Baku Free Satirical Agitation Theater (1921). In 1920 he began to work at the Aziz-bekov Azerbaijani Theater in Baku. Characteristic of his talent was gentle humor, simplicity of performance, and the rich, everyday coloration he imparted to his roles. His best roles included Gadzhi Kara and Vizier (Gadzhi Kara and Vizier of the Lenkoranian Khanate by Akhundov), Meshadi (Arshin mal alan by U. Gadzhibekov), Oddamdi (The Bride of Fire by Dzhabarly), Meshadi Gulam Gusein (Mukhabbet by Ibragimov), Nadzhaf-bek (Morning of the East by Mamedkhanly), and Osip (Inspector General by Gogol). He appeared in films.

Aliev twice received the State Prize of the USSR (1943 and 1948). He has been awarded two orders.
