All-Japan Confederation of Labor
(Zennipon rodo sodomei: Domei), the second largest trade union center of Japan in terms of membership (after the General Council of Trade Unions of Japan); it represents the right wing of the trade union movement. It was established in 1964 as a result of the merger of three right-wing trade union organizations—the All-Japan Congress of Trade Unions (Zenro, founded in 1954), the Japan Federation of Trade Unions (Sodomei, founded in 1946), and the Council of Trade Unions of State Enterprises and Institutions (Zenkanko, founded in 1959). It supports the right-wing socialist Democratic Socialist Party. It belongs to the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and is the leading organization of its Asian regional association. It has more than 2 million members (1970). Want to thank TFD for its existence?
