All-Russian Society for the Blind

a public organization that operates under the general direction and supervision of the Ministry of Social Security of the RSFSR. Founded in 1925.

The task of the All-Russian Society for the Blind consists in bringing people with vision defects (the blind and those with weak vision) into an association in order to match them up with socially useful work, to improve their cultural and everyday living conditions, and to expand their general education, occupational skills, and political awareness. The managing body of the society is the central board, which is elected at the society’s congresses for a term of four years. All other Union republics also have societies for the blind. The society has published the journal Nasha zhizn’ (Our Life) since 1924.
