Allagash Wilderness Waterway

Location: Northern Maine, from Telos Landing to Allagash (near the Canadian border).
Facilities: 80 marked campsites, hiking trails.
Activities: Low-impact, primitive camping, canoeing, hiking, hunting (in season), fishing, ice fishing, snowmobiling (no groomed trails).
Special Features: Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a 92-mile-long ribbon of lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams winding through the heart of northern Maine's vast commercial forests. Hiking trails to fire towers offer visitors spectacular views of the surrounding lakes and woodlands.

The crown jewel of Maine's North Woods and a scenic refuge without rival, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway (Allagash) is a protected 92-mile-long river, stream, lake, and pond corridor.
THE FIRST 2(a)(ii) RIVER The first river to be designated under section 2(a)(ii) of the Act was ninety-two miles of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in northern Maine, one of the country's most popular wild canoeing rivers.
