Allen, Paula Gunn (1939– ) Laguna/Sioux scholar, writer; born in Cubero, N.M. Of mixed Laguna Pueblo, Sioux, and Chicano heritage, she is a poet and novelist who incorporated feminist issues in writing of Indian culture and personal experiences. She was primarily associated with the Native American Studies program at the University of California: Berkeley. Her books include The Woman Who Owned the Shadows (1983), The Sacred Hoop (1986), and Spider Woman's Granddaughters (1989).
