Allen, Terry (de la Mesa) (1888–1969) soldier; born in Fort Douglas, Utah. The famously profane son of a professional soldier, "Terrible Terry" Allen failed to graduate from West Point, and fought as a professional boxer for a time. During World War II, he became the only officer to lead two infantry divisions in battle—the 1st, composed largely of regulars, in Sicily in 1943, and the conscript 104th, which he trained in Oregon and led in France and Germany in 1944–45.
