Almond, Edward Mallory (1892–1979) soldier; born in Luray, Va. A veteran of World War I and World War II, he commanded the amphibious invasion of Inchon, Korea, and captured the South Korean capital, Seoul (1950). When a massive Chinese counteroffensive threw the United Nations' drive into reverse, he led the X Corps in a fighting withdrawal southward from Choisin Reservoir. How to thank TFD for its existence?
