Alpha Five

An application development and database management system (DBMS) for Windows from Alpha Software, Inc., Burlington, MA (www.alphasoftware.com). Noted for its ease of use and rapid application building, Alpha Five provides high-level, predefined scripts for creating desktop and Web-based applications. Having evolved over the course of more than 25 years, Alpha Five's DOS predecessors (Alpha Three and Alpha Four) let users quickly build applications for dBASE databases without having to use the dBASE programming language.

Multiple Levels of Programming
Alpha Five also includes its own Xbasic programming language, which can be used in conjunction with its high-level scripts and visual building tools. Applications can use the native dBASE-compatible database engine or connect to any SQL database.

Action Scripts
Alpha Five's high-level scripts provide a huge number of frameworks for common functions. In this example, all the actions on the right are available for the forms category selected in the left pane. (Image courtesy of Alpha Software, Inc., www.alphasoftware.com)
