A somewhat rounded rock fragment ranging in diameter from 2 to 4 millimeters; larger than a coarse sand grain and smaller than a pebble.

9,10) Platelet-derived growth factor and PDGFR are found in the alpha granules of platelets and in mesenchymal and epithelial cells in a variety of tissues.
4) PRP is thought to work via the degranulation of the alpha granules in platelets that contain a number of growth factors believed to be important in early wound healing.
Intracellular signaling processes lead to increased cytoplasmic calcium and then initiate a secretory release reaction, whereby products from the alpha granules (platelet factor 4, [beta]-thromboglobulin, thrombospondin, platelet-derived growth factor, fibrinogen, VWF) and dense granules (adenosine diphosphate [ADP], serotonin) are released into the surrounding milieu.
