Alsop, Joseph (Wright), Jr. (1910–89) journalist; born in Avon, Conn. He wrote a syndicated political column, "Capital Parade" (1937–40) with Robert Kinter. He interrupted his career for wartime service with the U.S. Navy. In 1946 he started a new column, "Matter of Fact," which he wrote with his brother, Stewart Alsop, until 1958, then by himself until 1974.
