Alta Lake State Park Location: 4 miles southwest of Pateros off State Route 153. Facilities: 168 campsites, 32 utility campsites (with water and electrical hookups; 1 @di), group camp, 4 restrooms (é), showers, picnic shelter, picnic areas, hiking trails (2 miles), swimming area, boat launch, dock, park store. Activities: Camping, boating, windsurfing, fishing, swimming, hiking. Special Features: Located in north-central Washington, where mountain pine forests meet the desert. Alta Lake is about two miles long and a half-mile wide, and was named by Mr Heinz, a jeweler who was mining in the area. Finding the lake without a name he named it after his daughter.
