Altai Horse 

a saddle and pack horse from the Mongolian stock raised in the mountainous regions of Altai Krai in the RSFSR. The horse is renowned for its remarkable strength, hardiness, and steady temper. In color it is usually gray, chestnut, grayish, or dun. Short of stature, the horse has a long trunk, broad chest and croup, and short neck and legs. Its height at the withers is 132–137 cm, the oblique length of its body is 138 -144 cm, the circumference of its breast is 160–165 cm, and the circumference of its coronet is 17–19 cm. It weighs between 300 and 350 kg. The Altai horse has a high meat and milk productivity. It is used as a saddle or pack animal (the latter in the mountains), as well as in agricultural work. It can carry a pack weighing between 100 and 150 kg. The Altai horse is being improved by crossing with saddle and harness breeds.

The breed is known for adaptability to harsh conditions and is used to improve the meat and milk yields in Altai horses.
Altai horses have large heads that are of average lengths, fleshy necks and a long back that dips slightly in the middle.
