Altan Tobchi

(literally, a golden button, golden code), Mongol chronicle of the 17th century; historical and literary monument. It was composed by Lubsan Dandzan, and it reproduces information from older chronicles which have not survived. In many respects it coincides with the Secret Story; the two monuments, which supplement each other, form a kind of anthology of old Mongolian poetry. Besides the poems of the Secret Story, the Altan Tobchi contains the address of the Mongol feudal lord Hudeisetsen to the sons of Ambagai-Khaan, the conversation of an orphaned boy with nine associates of Genghis Khan, admonitions of Hasar, and so forth.
