AltaVista

(AltaVista Company, Palo Alto, CA, www.altavista.com) The first search engine to index every word on a page and provide a retrieval system to extract relevant information. Developed by Digital's Research Labs in Palo Alto in 1995, the AltaVista search engine is available in more than 25 languages in a variety of versions. In 2003, AltaVista was acquired by Overture.
