Altrincham (ôl`trĭng-əm), town (1991 pop. 39,528), Trafford metropolitan district, W central England. A suburb of Manchester, it has a textile-printing industry and engineering works and is also noted for its market gardens. The town's growth was stimulated by the construction of the Bridgewater Canal in 1760.
