Alushta

a city in Crimean Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, located 50 km southeast of Simferopol’ and 33 km northeast of Yalta. A trolleybus line connects Alushta and Simferopol’. The population of Alushta in 1967 was 18,000. It is a health resort on the Southern Crimean Shore, with a considerably cooler climate than at other resorts of the Southern Shore. This is especially so in winter, because Alushta is less protected from northern winds. The swimming season lasts from June to September. In addition to am-pelotherapy, Alushta has treatments for nontubercular respiratory diseases, functional diseases of the nervous system, some cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disturbances, and others. There are sanatoriums, workers’ resorts, Young Pioneers’ camps, a tourist center, and a therapy beach. Alushta is a year-round health resort. It has five wineries, a dairy plant, and a furniture factory. It also has a historical and revolutionary museum and a literary museum in honor of the writer and academician S. N. Sergeev-Tsenskii.
