Amaravati

(ŭ'mərävŭ`tē), ancient ruined city, Andhra Pradesh state, SE India, near the mouth of the Krishna River. The former capital of the Buddhist Satavahana, or Andhra, kingdom, it is a well-known archaeological site. Remains include a beautiful Buddhist stupa (1st cent. A.D.). In 2015 an area including the ancient city was designated as the location for Andhra Pradesh's future capital, also to be called Amaravati.
