Sound Post
a wooden part of bowed musical instruments of the violin family; it is a small post with its ends cut at an angle to one side that stands in the body of the instrument. The sound post equalizes the resistance of the body to the pressure of strings and transmits the vibration from the upper soundboard to the lower one and renders their vibrations regular and consonant. The sound post’s dimensions and positioning in many ways determine the tone quality of the instrument. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
