American Race

or Americanoid race, a race including the aboriginal population of America (Indians) and combining Mongoloid traits (straight black hair, wide protruding cheekbones) with features not characteristic of Mongoloids (very prominent nose with high nasal bridge, absence of epicanthic fold). In general, it is closer to the Mongoloid racial stock than to any other, exhibiting a particular resemblance to the ancient Proto-Mongoloid type. The distinctiveness of the American race is explained by its prolonged development in isolation.
