Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge Location: 15 miles northwest of Dawsonville on GA Hwy 52. Facilities: 24 tent/trailer/RV campsites, 14 cottages, 57-room lodge and conference center, 20-room inn (accessible only on foot), 4 picnic shelters, 1 group shelter, hiking trails (12 miles), ropes course, restaurant, gift shops, visitor center. Activities: Camping, fishing, hiking, interpretive programs, outdoor skills classes (seasonal). Special Features: The 729-foot Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. An 8-mile approach trail leads from the falls to Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the 2,144-mile Appalachian National Scenic Trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine.
