Amidopyrine
(also pyramidon), a medicinal preparation derived from pyrazolone having febrifugal, anodyne, and anti-inflammatory effects. Amidopyrine is used in headache, neuralgia, arthritis, myositis, chorea, and acute rheumatism. It is prescribed in powders, tablets, and less frequently in solution. The maximum dosage for adults is 0.5 g per single dose and 1.5 g in 24 hours. Prepared remedies are also produced in which amidopyrine is combined with phenacetin to form pirafen, with barbital to form verodon, with caffeine to form piramein, and so forth.
