Amin, Ahmad
Born Nov. 1, 1878; died May 30, 1954. Egyptian historian and philologist. Amin received his education at the Muslim Azhar University. He published a multivolume series of works on history and the history of social thought under the caliphate. His encyclopedic Dictionary of Egyptian Manners, Customs, and Expressions (1953) contains a wealth of information on the history, economy, literature, manners, and customs of the Egyptians. His work Prominent Reformers in Modern Times (1948) is dedicated to examining the views and activities of the most important Muslim thinkers and reformers of the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries.
