Amiranashvili, Petr Varlamovich
Born Nov. 3 (16), 1907, in the village of Nigoiti, Kutaisi Province. Georgian Soviet operatic artist (baritone); People’s Artist of the USSR (1950). Member of the CPSU since 1943. In 1930 he graduated from the Tbilisi conservatory, where he studied under O. A. Bakhutashvili-Shul’gina. Amiranashvili has been working at the Paliashvili Theater of the Opera and Ballet (Tbilisi) since 1931. His parts have included Avtandil (Skazanie o Táñele by Mshvelidze; awarded the USSR State Prize, 1947); Murman, Kiazo, and Engichar (Abesalom i Eteri, Daisi, and Latavra by Paliashvili); Gocha (Daredzhan Kovarnaia by M. Balanchivadze); Onegin and Tomskii (Evgenii Onegin and Pikovaia dama by Tchaikovsky); Demon (Demon by Rubinstein); Amonasro, Rigoletto, and Germond (Aida, Rigoletto, and Traviata by Verdi); Valentin (Faust by Gounod); Escamillo (Carmen by Bizet); Tonio (Pagliacci by Leoncavallo). Amiranashvili has performed as a chamber music singer. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, four other orders, and a number of medals. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
