Amylenes

also pentenes (C₅H₁₀), unsaturated hydrocarbons of the olefin series. All six possible isomers are known:

CH₃CH₂CH₂CH = CH₂

C₂H₅CH = CHCH₃ (cis and trans)

C₂H₅C(CH₃) = CH₂

CH₃CH = C(CH₃)₂

(CH₃)₂CHCH = CH₂

The products of cracked gasoline contain a mixture of isomeric amylenes. Industrial amylene boils at temperatures of 39°–40.5°C; its density is 650.9kg/m³. The polymers of amylene are used as lubricating oils, in printer’s ink, and so on.
