An Nasiriyah

An Nasiriyah (än näsĭrĭ`yä), city (1987 pop. 265,937), provincial capital, SE Iraq, on the Euphrates River. It is the center of a date-growing region. Founded in 1870, the city was captured by the British in 1915. Nearby are the ruins of Ur.

Returning to An Nasiriyah as RCT-2 began setting the conditions for Phase IV of OIF, 1/10 organized and operated as provisional infantry from 23 April until 12 May.
The concept of support developed for the 3d Infantry Division's drive to Baghdad called for the 24th CSG to build two forward logistics bases (FLBs), one near An Nasiriyah in southern lraq to provide bulk refueling and one near An Najaf, about halfway to Baghdad, to provide bulk refueling and ammunition resupply.
Mark Anthony Sarmiento, 22, is with the 1st Battalion 2nd Marines or Task Force Tarawa from Camp Lejeune, the men and women who have been under fire in An Nasiriyah in Southern Iraq.
