vənŭn'təp r`əm), formerly Trivandrum (trĭvăn`drəm), city (1991 pop. 826,255), capital and largest city of Kerala Kerala , state (2001 provisional pop. 31,838,619), 15,003 sq mi (38,858 sq km), SW India, on the Arabian Sea.
