(architecture) A bracket, elbow, or console at the top of a wall or window jamb to support a cornice. ancon, (pl.) ancones ancon, 2 ancon, 1 1. A scrolled bracket or console, 1 which supports a cornice or entablature over a door or window. 2. A projecting boss on a column drum or wall block. 3. A cramp to fasten blocks of stone.
