Andreanof Islands

Group of the Aleutian Islands, southwestern Alaska, U.S. Lying between the Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea, the islands extend east to west about 270 mi (430 km) between the Fox and Rat island groups. They were strategically important in World War II, when U.S. military bases were developed, especially on Adak Island. Other islands in the group include Atka, Tanaga, and Kanaga.

Andreanof Islands 

the central group in the Aleutian Archipelago, between Amukta Pass and Amchitka Pass. The Andreanof Islands are part of the US state of Alaska. They are approximately 450 km long; there are 46 volcanic islands and numerous low cliffs. The largest islands are Atka and Adak. There are eight active volcanoes on the Andreanof Islands. The highest point is Tanaga Volcano (1,806 m). Vegetation consists of subarctic grassland and heath tundra. Arctic foxes are numerous. Cod and flatfish are found in the coastal waters. The Andreanof Islands were discovered and first described in 1760–64 by the Russian navigator Andrean Tolstykh.
