Andreescu, Ion
Born Feb. 15, 1850, in Bucharest; died there on Oct. 22 or 23, 1882. Rumanian realist painter. Andreescu studied at the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest with T. Aman from 1869 to 1872 and at the Académie Julien in Paris from 1879 to 1881. In the late 1870’s he joined the Barbizon School. He painted portraits, lyrical national landscapes, and scenes of peasant life that are noted for their soft spectrum and subtle gradations of color. In 1948, Andreescu was posthumously elected an honorary member of the Academy of the Socialist Republic of Rumania. REFERENCEBogdan, R. Ion Andreescu.
