Khilkov, Andrei Iakovlevich

Born 1676; died 1718 in Västerås, Sweden. Prince; Russian diplomat.

In 1697, Khilkov went to Italy to study navigation and shipbuilding. In 1700 he served as Russian ambassador to Sweden, but he was seized as a prisoner of war that year because of the outbreak of the Northern War of 1700–21. He remained in captivity until 1718; however, he found ways to convey information about the situation in Sweden to Peter I.
