Andrianov, Kuz’ma Andrianovich 

Born Dec. 15 (28), 1904. Soviet chemist; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1964; corresponding member, 1953). Hero of Socialist Labor (1969). Member of the CPSU since 1949.

Upon graduation from Moscow University in 1930, An-drianov worked at the All-Union Electrotechnical Institute, and since 1954 has worked at the Institute of Hetero-organic Compounds of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. From 1941 to 1959 he taught at the Moscow Power Institute (professor since 1946). Since 1959 he has directed the subdepartment of polymer synthesis at the Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Engineering. Andrianov’s principal works are in the synthesis and technology of high-molecular-weight compounds, especially organicsilicons. He first synthesized polyorganic siloxanes in 1937. Since 1947, he has been working on the basic principles of the synthesis of polymers with chains of inorganic molecules, including polyorganic metallo-siloxanes. Under his guidance, work has been conducted in the synthesis of thermostable organosilicon polymers and materials based on them. These materials have found wide application in the insulation of electrical machines and apparatus, in the manufacture of lubricants, plastics, paints and varnishes, and so on. Andrianov was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1943, 1946, 1950, and 1953 and the Lenin Prize in 1962.
