Andrikanis, Evgenii Nikolaevich
Born Dec. 14 (27), 1909, in Paris. Soviet cameraman and director. Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1957). Member of the CPSU since 1968. In 1932, Andrikanis graduated from the cinematography department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography. His first films were Swamp Soldiers (1938) and Mashen’ka (1942). He collaborated with the director S. I. Iutkevich in the creation of a number of color motion pictures— Przheval’skii (1952), Skanderbeg, the Great Warrior of Albania (1954), Othello (based on Shakespeare’s tragedy; 1956), and the episode The Last Autumn in the film Stories About Lenin (1958). In 1958, Andrikanis participated with cameramen V. V. Nikolaev and R. Singh in the creation of the Soviet-Indian film Journey Beyond the Three Seas. Since 1960 he has worked as a director. He directed the films A Northern Story (1960), based on K. G. Paustovskii’s work of that name, and Executed at Dawn (1965), which deals with the tragic death of Aleksandr Ul’ianov.
