Andronik Timofeevich Nevezha

    0.01 sec.
Nevezha, Andronik Timofeevich

(also Andronik Timofeevich Timofeev). Date of birth unknown; died between Nov. 30 (Dec. 10), 1602, and Apr. 29 (May 9), 1603. Russian printer.

There are 13 known books published by Nevezha between 1568 and 1602. The first was the Psalter (1568), printed, as it says in the afterword, “through the painstaking efforts of Nikifor Tarasiev and Nevezha Timofeev” in Moscow. The name Nikifor Tarasiev is not encountered again. In 1577, Nevezha printed the Psalter in the Aleksandrova sloboda (tax-exempt settlement). It is possible that the Breviary, published without a date, was also printed there.

From 1587 until the end of his life, Nevezha worked in the Moscow pechatnyi dvor (printing house), where he published Triodion (1589), Pentecostarion (1591), Octoechos (1594), and Apostle (1597), with the first figure engraving signed by the engraver in the history of Russian printing. The ornamental engravings in Nevezha’s editions were variations on motifs that were popular in Moscow manuscripts of the first half of the 16th century. After Nevezha’s death, his son Ivan Andronikov Nevezhin worked at the Moscow pechatnyi dvor (printing house) from 1603 to 1611.
