Androvskaia, Ol’ga Nikolaevna 

(real surname Shul’ts). Born July 9 (21), 1898, in Moscow. Soviet Russian actress. People’s Artist of the USSR (1948).

Androvskaia’s stage career began in the former Korsh Theater. In 1919 she joined the second studio of the Moscow Art Theater and has been a member of the Moscow Art Theater’s troupe since 1924. Androvskaia played Suzanne in Beaumarchais’ The Mad Day, or The Marriage of Figaro (1927) with brilliant theatrical skill. She created this role under the direction of K. S. Stanislavsky. Androvskaia’s acting is characterized by a fine elegance of stage portrayal, poetic inspiration, and graceful charm. Her roles include Liza in Griboedov’s Woe From Wit, Varvara in A. N. Ostrovskii’s The Storm, Panova in Trenev’s Liubov’ larovaia, Lady Teazle in Sheridan’s School for Scandal, Rose Griggs in Hellman’s The Autumn Garden, and Polezhaeva in Rakhmanov’s Anxious Old Age. She appeared in the film versions of Chekhov’s works The Bear, Man in a Case, Anniversary, and others. She was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1952, two orders, and various medals.
