Angas

(native name Kerang or Karangma), a people in Nigeria. Along with the Ankwe (native name Kemai) and Sura peoples, to whom they are closely related by language and culture, they settled the region of Pankshin, where they number about 400,000 people (1967 estimate). They speak a language of the Hausa group. Their religion is the Sunni branch of Islam. Most of the Angas engage in farming (millet, cassava, sorghum, yams, and rice) or, in mountainous areas, cattle raising. The Angas, as well as the Ankwe, Sura, and some other neighboring tribes, have assimilated with the Hausa.
