Angel Island State Park Location: Park is located in San Francisco Bay and is accessible only by private boat or public ferry from San Francisco, Tiburon, or Vallejo. Facilities: 9 environmental campsites (campers should be prepared to carry equipment up to two miles), picnic areas, hiking trails, bike trails, boat mooring, visitor center, restrooms, exhibits, food service (é). Activities: Camping, fishing, hiking, boating, bicycling, interpretive programs, guided tram tours, guided kayak trips around the island. Special Features: The island is rich in history and, among other things, has been a Miwok Indian hunting ground, a Civil War encampment, a World War II POW camp, an Immigration Station, and a Nike Missile Base (1952-1962). Situated in the middle of San Francisco Bay, the park offers spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, the Marin Headlands, and Mount Tamalpais.
